Lonely Leaf

A leaf from a tree growing by the shore had fallen into the lake. There shouldn’t have been anything special about that. There were a lot of leaves in the lake and on the ground next to it.

But this leaf caught my attention. It was separate from all the others and seemed to be surrounded by twig-like fingers creeping up from underneath the surface. But they weren’t trying to pull it down into the depths like some horror movie. Instead, they seemed to be holding it up and supporting it. It was a commiseration between two lonely things, that had found each other.
